Recycle Plus and Rock97.7 Raise Funds For Haiti

There have been many fundraising activities held in recent weeks to raise money for the people of Haiti. Rock 97.7 in coordination with Recycle Plus held one of their own with the proceeds going to The Canadian Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.

A drop off location was established at Centre 2000 over five days where residents could donate their empty beverage containers. Rock 97 was 'on location' on the first day to promote the fundraiser and Recycle Plus staff were there to manage the donations. This effort was so well received that the trailer was filled on the first day and needed to be exchanged for second one!

The radio station continued to promote the event on-air and on-site and by the fifth day that trailer and a third was also filled.

The staff of Recycle Plus all agreed to work on their day off to sort the containers and donate their time to the effort as long as the money for their pay was donated. Recycle Plus responded by matching the wages in contribution dollars to the fundraiser. Roseneau Transport donated the use of the trailers for the drop off as well as the cartage fees received for transporting the goods to Edmonton.

In total almost $20,000 was raised in this one heroic campaign. The Red Cross is eligible to receive matching Federal monies so the campaign will net almost $40,000 to the relief effort in Haiti.

Great work everyone!

Residential Recycling Telephone Survey

Recycle Plus Wants To Know!!!

In order to design a service that meets your needs, Recycle Plus wants to hear from you.  Over the next few weeks, many residents in Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie and the Peace River Regional District (northern BC) , will receive a telephone call from one of our survey personnel.

Please note                   WE ARE NOT SELLING ANYTHING!!!

Please take a few minutes (three or four at best) and answer seven questions.

These questions are designed to take the pulse of you and your community’s current recycling habits and to determine your needs and desires.  There is a question about cost as cost is always a consideration for selecting the type of service you choose and we deliver.

If you have not been contacted and would like to participate in this survey, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 780-831-0270.

Thank you.

Recycle Plus Task Force Examines New Materials Recycling Facility

Press Release

September 22, 2009

Recycle Plus Task Force

Advanced Management Ltd. has been contracted by Recycle Plus to develop a business plan for the purpose of constructing a new Materials Recycling Facility.  Recycle Plus has partnered with the City of Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie, and the PRRD (Peace River Regional District – northern BC) to examine the practicality and feasibility of implementing this initiative.

It is our intention to present to the task force a long term, a sustainable recycling strategy that will outline potential recyclable diversions as well as recommend a cost effective means of collection and processing.

Each partner has unique characteristics however shares a common goal of reducing our carbon footprint by keeping recyclables out of the landfills.  This partnership will work together to gather information, examine best practices and make recommendations to meet common goals.

A time line has been established to complete each phase of the Business Plan and we anticipate a Final Report and Recommendations to be available by February 2010.  Based on our findings, Recycle Plus will be seeking long term commitments and assistance by our municipal partners in the application of provincial and/or federal grants that may be available for this type of project.
